No. 20 Memphis Earns 4-2 Road Victory at Clemson
Mar 16, 2024 | Men's Tennis
CLEMSON, S.C. --Â The No. 20 University of Memphis men's tennis team claimed its third-straight victory Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 road win over the Clemson Tigers.
Â
With the win, Memphis improved to 11-3 overall and picked up its sixth win of the year against a Power Five opponent.
Â
"It was a very tough win today," Memphis head coach Chris Doerr said. "No. 2 doubles got us off to a great start and then we had a fantastic tiebreak at No. 1 that sneaked us the doubles point.
Â
"Harry (Rock) and Pablo (Alemany) came out great in singles to give us three points while Maxime (Dubouch) continues to impress us clinching. Clemson is a young and feisty team so I'm happy to come away with the win."
Â
Pablo Alemany and Harry Rock highlighted the team's performance on the day with each earning decisions in doubles and singles.
Â
The Bluff City Tigers battled to clinch the doubles point, starting with a 6-3 win from Rock and Conor Gannon on court two against Max Damm and Wissam Abderrahman. Clemson answered with a 6-2 win on court three.
Â
The No. 25 ranked pair of Alemany and Charlie Barry downed No. 62 Max Smith and Noa Vukadin in a tiebreak, 7-6(4), to notch the opening point.
Â
Memphis carried that momentum into singles, winning on courts one and three to go in front 3-0.
Â
No. 68 Alemany took care of business on the top line, winning 6-4, 7-5, before Rock swept his opponent 6-4, 6-4.
Â
Clemson battled back with a pair of victories on court five (by retirement) and court two to pull within a point.
Â
Memphis closed out the match with the clinch point on court six when freshman Maxime Dubouch pulled out the 7-6(3), 7-5 victory.
