Memphis’ Season Ends in 4-3 Heartbreaker to Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Memphis men's tennis team battled back from a 3-1 deficit but ultimately fell just short in a 4-3 loss to No. 6 seed Tulsa on Friday afternoon in the American Conference Championship quarterfinals.
Memphis opened the match by dropping the doubles point to fall into an early 1-0 hole. The tandem of Moritz Kudernatsch/Maxime Dubouch earned a 6-2 victory on court one to secure the lone doubles win for the Tigers.
Tulsa responded in singles play, winning the first two completed matches to surge ahead 3-1. The Golden Hurricane picked up victories on courts one and three, putting Memphis on the brink.
Facing elimination, the Tigers mounted a strong comeback. Marko Milosavljevic dominated on court six, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Maxime Dubouch delivered a clutch performance on court two, grinding out a three-set victory, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), to earn the second point for the Tigers. Soon after, Marcos Castro Fabra evened the match at 3-3 with a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2 win on court five.
With the match tied, all eyes turned to court four. In a tightly contested battle, Leandro Zgraggen went to a deciding third set but was narrowly edged by Tulsa's Ruben Fernandez, who claimed the match 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5) to secure the 4-3 victory for the Golden Hurricane.
Memphis finishes its 2026 campaign 12-12 and will look to claim its first American Conference Championship next season.
