Memphis Falls in AAC Opening Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its final game against Tulsa, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Softball Complex in the opening weekend of American Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
The Tigers (3-19, 0-3 AAC) opened strong, holding off the Golden Hurricane through the first two innings allowing one walk and no hits. Memphis struggled to find its groove defensively through the middle of the game, allowing Tulsa to take the lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• McKaylee Polk got on base first for the Tigers, drawing a walk in the bottom of the second inning. Madison Berner executed a tight sacrifice bunt in the next at-bat to move Polk into scoring position, however, Memphis was unable to capitalize on it.
• Tulsa got on the board first as Imani Edwards hit a two-run triple to the left center field wall in the top of the third frame.
• The Golden Hurricane had a big fourth inning, starting as Maci Cole drew a bases loaded walk allowing Cramer in for the score. Hall reached on a fielder's choice followed by a two-run single from Morgan to make the score, 6-0.
• The Tigers put up their first hit of the game as Polk fired a shot through the left side in the bottom of the fourth frame. Memphis would close the bottom of the inning with two runners in scoring position but were unable to score.
• Tulsa added another run to the scoreboard as Cramer grounded out to the shortstop, tallying an RBI as Jones reached home in the top of the fifth frame.
• Presley Morris singled shallow to left field, notching her first hit of the game to open the bottom of the fifth inning. Arianna Cox-Cole drew a walk to put two Tigers on base. Morris and Cox-Cole would be left stranded to close the frame.
NOTABLES
• Two Tigers recorded hits in the game: Polk in the bottom of the fourth and Morris in the bottom of the fifth.
• Memphis drew three walks against Tulsa: Kennedy Semien, Cox-Cole and Polk.
• Rylee Dugar got the start going 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Taniyah Brown made an appearance in the circle coming in as relief to close the top of the fourth inning. Taniyah Brown finished the game with 3.1 innings of work and two strikeouts.
• Memphis held Tulsa scoreless in the final two innings of the game.

• The Tigers will head on the road for a doubleheader at Mississippi State on Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
