Tigers Earn 84-77 Road Win Over Owls

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Memphis men's basketball team went on the road and hung on to defeat American Athletic Conference opponent Temple, 84-77, Thursday night inside the Liacouras Center.
David Jones notched a double-double with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting to lead the Tigers offensively (17-6, 6-4 AAC). Jahvon Quinerly added 19 points, six assists and five boards, while Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Nicholas Jourdain and Jonathan Pierre also reached double figures.
Memphis held a 45-27 halftime lead and shot 48.3-percent as a team (29-of-60) in the win, knocking down 10 triples on 29 attempts (34.5%). The Owls (8-15, 1-9 AAC) rallied back in the second half and pulled to within three points with thirty seconds left in regulation as the Tigers missed six free throws in the final one minute and change.
The struggles from the line plagued the Tigers in the second half, where after going 5-of-6 in the first 20 minutes, they knocked down just 11-of-25 after the break.
Temple was led by Jahlil White's 20 points offensively and shot 41.7-percent as a team as it dropped its eighth-consecutive game.
