Feb 10, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - With four home games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Memphis Tigers host Tulane Sunday afternoon as they continue the back half of the American Athletic Conference slate. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN2 inside FedExForum.
Having won two games in a row, the Tigers (17-6, 6-4 AAC) currently sit sixth place in the league standings, three games behind first-place South Florida (9-1) and two games behind second-place Florida Atlantic (8-2) and Charlotte (8-2).
With an extra day added to the conference championship this season, the top four seeds receive a double-bye in the AAC Tournament. Six of Memphis' final eight games are against teams in the top-six of the standings with three of those being at home.
Tulane brings an 13-9 overall record and 4-6 league mark into the weekend. The Green Wave sit eighth in the AAC after being picked third in the preseason coaches poll.
Tulane has been a thorn in Memphis' side the last couple of seasons, winning the last three regular-season meetings and four of the last five.
Since knocking off the No. 10 Tigers (81-79) in New Orleans on Jan. 21, the Green Wave have dropped three of their last four outings. They are coming off a 92-80 overtime victory at home against Temple last Sunday.
Five players are averaging double figures for Tulane, led by Kevin Cross' 18.4 points per game. He is also the team's top rebounder (7.6) and assist man (4.5).
Sunday's meeting marks the 77th meeting all-time between the programs with the Tigers leading 61-15. Memphis holds a 35-4 record at home against the Green Wave, but Tulane got a 90-89 win in overtime last season. Prior to that win, the Green Wave hadn't won at FedExForum since 2015, dropping eight straight meetings.
Memphis' 76 games against the Green Wave are its fourth-most against an opponent in program history, behind Southern Miss (91), Louisville (90) and Cincinnati (86).
There will be 2,500 Hawaiian themed shirts at the gates for fans.
UP NEXT
Memphis hits the road for a Texas two-step next week with trips to North Texas (Feb. 15) and SMU (Feb. 18). The Tigers will stay in the Lonestar State for four nights, their longest trip of the season.
