Feb 22, 2024 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field this weekend as it welcomes Bowling Green to the Bluff City for the first home three-game weekend series of the season.
The Tigers (2-3) took care of business in their home opener Wednesday night, defeating Central Arkansas, 14-4, in eight innings behind an offensive explosion that yielded a program-record seven home runs and 12 extra-base hits for Memphis. Austin Baskin and Pierre Seals both homered twice, and the Tigers totaled 43 bases in the win – the second most in program history and the most since logging 42 against Marshall in 2010.
JT Durham earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season after going three innings and allowing three runs on four hits with a strikeout and a pair of walks. Durham has been credited with the win in both of Memphis' victories this year.
Memphis' opening-weekend rotation at Jacksonville State of David Warren, Luke Ellis and Caden Robinson combined to allow just five earned runs in 14 innings of work while striking out 13 Gamecocks and walking just five. The Tigers will roll out the same rotation this weekend against the Falcons. Bowling Green will counter with RHP DJ Newman (0-1, 12.00 ERA), LHP Nic Good (0-0, 1.80 ERA) and RHP Calvin Mitchell (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
The Falcons (1-2) are coming off a series loss at Middle Tennessee last weekend, however they were able to salvage one win in the series, taking the Sunday finale, 7-3.
FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field will play host to the first-ever meeting between Memphis and Bowling Green. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. for Sunday's series finale.
Tickets are available for purchase at this link. Friday Happy Hour and $2 beer at FedExPark will be available from 15 minutes before first pitch until 45 minutes after first pitch (must be 21 years of age or over to purchase and consume).
