MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis men's tennis team continued its hot streak to open the season, earning a 4-0 sweep over Northwestern Friday night at the Leftwich Tennis Center.

The Tigers start the season 3-0 for the third time in the last four years.

It was complete domination for Memphis from the onset. Top tandem Pablo Alemany and Charlie Barry rolled the opponent 6-2 on court one before Conor Gannon and Harry Rock followed suit (6-2) at the second spot to grab the doubles point.

Pau Fanlo and Maxime Dubouch were in a 4-4 match when the point was clinched.

"Today was a great match, I am really impressed with our No. 1 and 2 doubles teams right now," Memphis head coach Chris Doerr said. "I was really impressed with Pablo and Charlie, I thought they came out after a huge win on Wednesday and really took control of their match with great energy. I saw a different level in Pablo tonight.

"I was also extremely proud of my No. 3 doubles as well. They had a rough go on Wednesday, but we had some talks and Pau led that team in being more aggressive."

The Tigers continued that momentum into singles, sweeping at the bottom three courts to get the shutout victory.

Juan Zabala got the party started with his second-straight sweep from the No. 6 spot, winning 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Maxime Dubouch improved to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court five and Harry Rock brought home the clincher from the fourth line 7-5, 6-3.

"We knew how dangerous Northwestern could be with us going into singles 1-0, so I preached to the guys we needed to come out with a quick start," Doerr said. "Juan has done an incredible job for us down at the sixth, he won on Wednesday and came out tonight and took care of business. He was really focused the entire match and I'm proud of him showing his senior experience.

"It was a good win, and we are really thankful for the crowd that came out," Doerr said. "They gave us good energy, but I think Leftwich can be a little bit louder on Sunday to help us take care of business again."
