Tigers Drop Afternoon Game to Knights on Senior Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– The Memphis softball team dropped their afternoon match up with UCF 6-3 on Senior Day. The Tigers (8-41) kept the game close in the first six innings before giving up three runs in the top of the seventh inning to the Knights.

"I thought we showed some good stuff on both sides of the ball but we need to be more consistent and not shot ourselves in the foot with little errors." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We've put together some good starts but we need to find a way to hold defensively and score when we have girls on base."

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       UCF got up on the board first as Cody stole home on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. The Knights added a one-run double as Doherty sent the ball to the center field wall.
•       Kendall Lee recorded the first hit for the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning, singling through right field.
•       The Tigers bring in their first run in the bottom of the third inning as Sam Ibison was walked with bases loaded, allowing Presley Morris to bring it in for the score. Memphis added two more runs as Linsey Hargis and Neely Taylor ran in on a Lee single and an error by the catcher to take the lead.
•       The Knights tied it back up in the top of the fifth inning as Searcy reached home on an error by the Tigers on C. Evans' single.
•       UCF took back the lead as Cody tripled down the right field line sending Searcy in for the score in the top of the seventh inning. The Knights added one more as C. Evans singled to right field allowing Cody to run in. UCF put up one more run before closing the top of the seventh inning.

NOTABLES

•       Rylee Dugar got the start going 6.1 innings before Drue Thomas came in as relief. Thomas went 0.2 innings.
•       Four Tigers recorded hits: Taylor Smrt, Emma Ponder, Lee and Hargis. Hargis went 2-for-4 with one run and Lee went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

•       The Tigers will close out the regular season against UCF on Sunday, May 7, at 12 p.m.
