Simpson Named AAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for Second-Straight Week

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Track & Field athlete Amber Simspon was named American Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Simpson threw a lifetime-best mark of 68.13 meters (223'6") in the hammer throw on home turf at the annual Memphis Invitational on April 28, breaking the meet, facility and school records in the process. Additionally, she improved her already No. 8 mark in the NCAA this season to No. 6 in the country and broke the American Conference record, previously held by former Tiger DeeNia McMiller (2019; 67.89m).
The native of Wales will aim to finish her season as an All American for the first time. Simpson finished 31st in the NCAA East Region in 2021 and 18th in 2019 in the hammer.
The Tigers are off this week to prepare for the American Outdoor Conference Championships on May 12-14.
