May 19, 2023 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team dropped game two of a three-game American Athletic Conference series, 11-5, to Tulane at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field on Friday night.
With the setback, the Tigers move to 27-26 (9-14 AAC) on the season. The Green Wave improved to 15-38 (8-15) on the year with the win.
"They took advantage of opportunities that we gave them, and we didn't take advantage of the ones they gave us," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "Tomorrow, we have a chance to come out and win the series and win the last conference weekend of the year. Hopefully we come out energized, play better baseball and give ourselves a chance."

• Tulane's Teo Banks hit his second first-inning home run of the series to give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead from the jump.
• Memphis responded with a solo blast of its own in the bottom of the first, a no-doubter off the bat of Logan Kohler deep into the right-field parking lot. The home run was Kohler's 10th of the year and tied the game at 1-1.
• Tulane got a pair of runs in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk and a sac-fly to take a brief 3-1 lead.
• In the bottom of the fourth, Memphis tied the game back up when Anthony Hansen legged out a two-run triple that scored Kohler and RJ Jimerson.
• Banks hit his second home run of the game in the fifth inning, a two-run shot to put the Green Wave up two. An RBI single by Jake LaPrairie later in the inning made it a 6-3 Tulane lead.
• Jonah Sutton hit his second home run in his past three games in the bottom of the fifth to cut Tulane's lead to 6-4.
• With two outs in the seventh inning, Tulane's Brayden Morrow connected for a grand slam to grow the Green Wave lead to 10-4.
• Jimerson knocked in a Tiger run with a two-out single to left field that brought home Austin Baskin from second base in the bottom of the seventh.
• Tulane got one more run in the ninth on an infield single that made the score 11-5 which held final.
