Memphis Takes on UCF in First Round of the AAC Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team will take on UCF in the first round of the AAC tournament. The Tigers (8-42) will play their fourth consecutive game against the Knights (36-19) after falling in three-straight games in their final home series last weekend, May 5-7.
The Tigers are looking to defeat the defending conference champions, UCF, and advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2018. Memphis took UCF to extra innings on May 5 putting up an impressive defensive showing for much of the weekend leading into the AAC tournament.
"We are looking forward to competing against UCF again in the tournament. I think we showed that we can compete over the weekend and will take what we learned and really use it as we prepare for the game on Thursday." head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "We have a lot we can learn from our series against UCF and we are excited to play this week."
UCF (36-19) sits as the No. 2 seed in the AAC Tournament and is harboring a 10-game win streak after sweeping Memphis last weekend. The Knights are looking to reclaim their AAC Tournament Champion title led offensively by Chloe Evans (.352 BA, .618 SLG, 43 RBI) and Aubrey Evans (.317 BA, .500 SLG, 26 RBI).
Two Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Kendall Lee, and Linsey Hargis. Aliana Zavala and Meagan Chism lead the team in RBIs with 19, followed by Lee with 17. Zavala leads Memphis in homeruns with four on the season, with Berner and Lee right on her tail tallying three so far. Sam Ibison and Lee lead the Tigers in hits with 38 hits on the season. Pitcher Hallie Siems leads the Tigers with 91 strikeouts so far on the season.
Memphis will begin the being conference tournament play on Thursday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m.
