WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis baseball team fell to No. 25 Wichita State, 12-3, in game one of a three-game American Athletic Conference series with the Shockers on Friday night at Eck Stadium.

With the setback, Memphis drops to .500 on the season (21-21, 4-9 AAC). The Shockers improved to 25-16 (9-4) on the year with the win.

"Another tough loss, but I thought that we did some things well, and some things not so well," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "We were in a big hole early, and it was tough to come back from."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Shockers jumped out to a 7-0 lead after scoring three in the first and four in the second inning.
• Memphis got a run back in the top of the third when Austin Baskin singled to drive in Jonah Sutton with two outs.
• The Shockers added a run to go up 8-1 in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Payton Tolle.
• The Tigers scored two in the sixth inning on an RBI ground out by RJ Jimerson and a two-out single through the left side by Brayland Skinner, making the score 8-3.
• Wichita State tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of two-run hits to take a 12-3 lead that proved to be final.

NOTABLES
• Three Tigers tallied multiple hits in the game (Anthony Hansen, Logan Kohler, Jonah Sutton) and all three scored a run. Baskin and Skinner each added a hit in the game, and each tallied an RBI.
• Tiger starter JT Durham made his fourth start on the mound and took the loss to go to 3-3 on the season.
• Lefties Luke Ellis and Daniel Casto each pitched a perfect inning of relief and David Warren was effective for 3.2 innings, allowing two hits and a run.

UP NEXT
• The Tigers are back at Eck Stadium for game two with the Shockers (25-16, 9-4) tomorrow at 2 p.m.
