WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis baseball team is headed to Wichita, Kan., for a three-game American Athletic Conference series with Wichita State this weekend at Eck Stadium. Games between the Tigers and Shockers are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday.
Memphis (21-20, 4-8) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at home in an AAC conference series against Houston, and a 4-2 mid-week win in the annual Babe Howard Classic over UT Martin at FedExPark on Tuesday.
"Looking forward to the weekend in Wichita against a tough conference opponent," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "We're starting the back half of our conference schedule and we're looking to improve on the first half. If we can go out and play clean like we did Tuesday night, we'll be in a good situation every weekend."
The Shockers (24-16, 8-4) enter the matchup after sweeping No. 7 East Carolina in Wichita last weekend before dropping their mid-week game at home to Kansas, 7-5, on Wednesday night. Offensively, Wichita State is led by Preseason AAC Player of the Year Brock Rodden (.354 BA, 12 HR, 46 RBI) and Chuck Ingram (.349 BA, 8 HR, 32 RBI).
The Shockers lead the all-time series with Memphis, 9-4, taking two-of-three from the Tigers in Memphis last year.
The Tigers picked up a win over Houston last Saturday as lefty Dalton Fowler limited the Cougars to just three hits and a pair of runs in six innings to earn his third-consecutive win. Over his first four AAC starts, he's 3-0 and has allowed just three runs over 25 innings, also racking up 36 strikeouts over that stretch. The hard-throwing southpaw is fifth in the country with 84 strikeouts on the year.
Logan Kohler has been on fire lately, tallying eight hits in his past three games to raise his batting average to a team-high .319. In Saturday's win, he became the first Tiger to record five hits in a game since Darien Tubbs against Cincinnati on May 18, 2016 – going 5-for-5 with a home run.
Outfielder Cameron Benson has reached base safely in 10-straight games. Additionally, lefty closer Dalton Kendrick is tied for second in the NCAA with 10 saves.
