Tigers Travel to Mississippi State for Midweek Matchup

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team look to build momentum off their 6-3 win over East Carolina Sunday afternoon, as they travel to Mississippi State to take on the Bulldogs in a midweek matchup on Wednesday night. The Tigers (8-34) will face off against Mississippi for the first time this season before heading into their conference bye weekend.
"We are looking forward to the game this week and using the momentum from the win over ECU Sunday to help us." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We worked hard over the weekend against ECU and are continuing to learn more about ourselves as a team as we work through the process. We look forward to playing Mississippi State and continuing to se what we've been working on in the game "
Mississippi State (23-19) is currently harboring a nine-game losing streak as the team approaches the midweek battle. The Bulldogs currently hold the bottom spot in the SEC rankings and are 3-11 against conference opponents. Mississippi State is 11-10 at home and holds over mutual opponents: Bethune-Cookman, Indiana, South Florida, UCF and Tulsa. The Bulldogs will be looking to build up some good momentum before heading to No. 13 LSU this coming weekend.
Two Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Madison Berner and Sam Ibison. Five Tigers have recorded double digit RBIs this season. Aliana Zavala leads with 19 followed Closely by Meagan Chism with 18. Kendall Lee has tallied 13 with Ibison and Berner rounding out with 10 a piece. Zavala leads Memphis in homeruns with four on the season with Berner following closely behind with three. Ibison also leads the Tigers in hits with 33 with Berner right behind recording 31 so far. Pitcher Hallie Siems leads the Tigers with 83 strikeouts so far on the season.
