MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to head to Oxford, Miss., for a rematch with defending national champion Ole Miss at Swayze Field on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers (17-16, 2-4) dropped a mid-week game at FedExPark last Tuesday (April 4) to the Rebels, 7-2. In that game, Anthony Hansen homered twice and Caden Robinson drew the start on the mound and took the loss. Ole Miss scored four in the fourth for the difference in the game. Over the weekend, the Tigers dropped a home series, two games to one, to AAC foe Cincinnati.
"We are not putting ourselves in a position to go out and play clean baseball, and that's the one thing I've asked them to do all year, and I'm going to continue to ask them to do," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "We'll turn the page and get ready to play Ole Miss again on Tuesday. "
The Rebels (18-13) enter the matchup after dropping a series two games to one over the weekend in Oxford to No. 5 Arkansas. Offensively, Ole Miss is led by Jacob Gonzalez (.351 BA, 6 HR, 11 2B, 30 RBI) and Kemp Alderman (.358 BA, 12 HR, 44 RBI).
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with Memphis, 64-39, with the Tigers' last wins coming in 2017. Memphis swept the Rebels that season, who were ranked No. 8 and No. 11 in those contests.
First baseman Anthony Hansen has hit safely in 27-of-31 games this season and carries a team-high .336 average to go with a team-leading nine home runs, 23 RBI and .432 on-base percentage. Austin Baskin is three hits shy of Hansen for the team lead in hits (38) and is batting .304 with eight doubles on the year, slugging four homeruns and knocking in 17 runs. In addition, Baskin has tallied a team-best 13 multi-hit games this season.
Caden Robinson (0-1, 2.70 ERA) will make his third start of the season and second of the year against the Rebels tomorrow night.
