MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis softball opens their month at home with the Blues City Classic on March 3-5. First pitch for the Tigers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. against UTSA and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Tigers (2-12) are coming off a winless weekend in Chattanooga, but are looking to capitalize on the progress made through the weekend. Memphis will take on UTSA (3-14) Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed up on Saturday with games against North Dakota State (6-8) at 2 p.m. and Drake (2-8) at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers will finish out the weekend with a game against SIUE (3-10) at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
"We are continuing to set goals for all our players and I thought we had some good moments last weekend." said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We still need to make sure we are improving, and most importantly, competing in every game."
Memphis veterans Kendall Lee and Sam Ibison lead the team in hitting with a .310 average or higher. The Tigers tied a season high with 10 hits against Eastern Illinois last weekend, recording a .333 hitting average along with the weekend-best six runs. Aliana Zavala and Lee recorded their second homeruns on the season.
Hallie Siems has tallied 42 strikeouts on the season, recoding seven against Eastern Illinois and six against UNLV last weekend in the Tigers' close losses.
