Tigers Trek to Thibodaux for Weekend Series with Nicholls
Mar 02, 2023 | Baseball
THIBODAUX, La. – The University of Memphis baseball team travels to Thibodaux, La., for a three-game weekend series with Nicholls at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field Friday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday are scheduled for first pitch at 6 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start in place for Sunday's series finale.
"They're a competitive program," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "Coach Silva has done a great job since he's been there, and I think his team embodies his attitude. They'll be a tenacious, scrappy group who will get after you from the first pitch to the last pitch. We need to go down there and throw strikes, have competitive at-bats and play clean baseball."
The Tigers (7-2) won a mid-week game at Central Arkansas on Tuesday by a score of 8-6. Memphis posted all eight runs in the first four innings, including five runs in the second inning on home runs by Austin Baskin and Brayland Skinner. Utility man Jake Curtis made his first start of the season on the mound and pitched three solid innings (3 H, 1 ER, 1 K). Glenn Green III pitched 2.1 innings of relief (3 K) to earn the win and improve to 2-0 and Dalton Kendrick recorded the final four outs to pick up his second save of the season.
Tuesday marked four-straight wins for Memphis and marked its best start to a season since the Tigers opened 11-1 in 2014.
The Colonels (6-4) enter the weekend winners of three straight after picking up 10-2 and 20-0 wins over Southeastern Baptist College on Tuesday and Wednesday. Offensively, Nicholls is led by Xane Washington (.333, seven doubles), Edgar Alvarez (.306, three doubles, two home runs) and Parker Coddou (.300, two doubles, one triple, two home runs). The Colonels lead the all-time series with the Tigers, 7-4.
Left-handed pitchers Dalton Fowler and JT Durham are scheduled to start the first two games of the weekend for the Tigers with freshman right-hander Seth Garner in line to start Sunday's finale.
All fans will receive free admission to Tiger home games in February and March, and kids ages 12 and under get in free all season long. Half-season ticket packages are available at GoTigersGo.com for all games beginning in April.
