Tigers Opens Season in SDSU Season Kickoff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis first-year head softball coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro and the Tigers will open the season in San Diego this week as they participate in the SDSU Season Kickoff beginning on Friday, Feb. 10.

Memphis will begin season play at the SDSU Season Kickoff Friday, facing off against Northern Illinois and CSU Northridge at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. They will follow those match ups on Saturday against Arizona State and San Diego State at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The Tigers will close the weekend against Notre Dame on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Tigers return key playmakers from 2022 in Kendall Lee, Taylor Smrt and Linsey Hargis who were three of the top hitters for Memphis last season. Lee, Smrt and Hargis were three of four returning players who started 40 or more games last season.

Lee returns after recording a team high 27 RBIs for the Tigers last season along with a .298 batting average, 42 hits and two home runs. Smrt and Hagris also added batting averages over .230 with Hagris leading the team with four home runs last season.

Hallie Siems and Mikayla Hoschak return to the pitching circle for The Tigers after recording 150 strikeouts and 44 starts between the two last season.
