Feb 04, 2023 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Memphis track and field teams are set to compete in Birmingham at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational on Sunday, Feb.5 inside the Birmingham Crossplex where they will take the track for the third-consecutive weekend.
"We're looking forward to competing at the facility that will host our conference championships," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "It will also be our first time this year on a banked 200-meter track. It should present some opportunities to improve our sprint and distance times. In the field, the vaulters continue to pace the group. They have been doing very well and I expect them to continue to improve. The horizontal jumps and throwers will hopefully continue to improve as well."
Running events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning with field events beginning at 11 a.m. Keep up with results in real time at THIS LINK and follow along on Twitter (@MemphisTFXC).
NOTABLES
• Graduate student Alyssa Morello was named American Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24 for her runner-up performance in the pole vault at the Vanderbilt Invitational. • Graduate student Cole Riddle was named AAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 31 for his school-record breaking and meet-winning performance at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Riddle's AAC-leading clearance of 5.58m (18'3.75") was a lifetime personal-best vault (indoors and outdoors) and currently ranks No. 8 in the NCAA.
• In the 60-meter hurdles, Madison Fleming took down a 13-year-old school record with her time of 8.36 in the prelims at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Her time is currently fifth-fastest in the AAC and ranks inside the top-50 nationally.
