Tigers Come Back Home to Host Rice and Tulane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers will come back home this weekend, hosting AAC newcomer Rice on Friday night and Tulane on Sunday afternoon. Memphis (5-12, 1-4) are looking to bounce back into the win column after being swept by Charlotte last weekend.
"We have two quality opponents this weekend in Rice and Tulane that bring different looks & systems to the Finch," head coach Sean Burdette remarked. "Rice is a team that has been in Top 25 this season and is currently receiving votes for the AVCA Top 25 poll. We are excited the Black Out Block Party and having our fans Black Out the Finch."
Rice (11-4, 5-0) has made a big splash in its inaugural season in the AAC, currently boasting a seven-match win streak and is the only undefeated team left in conference play. The Owls have ranked win so far on the season, sweeping then No.22 USC on Aug. 26. Rice is currently averaging 13.3 kills, 15.9 digs and 2.6 blocks per set. The Owls led offensively by Danyle Courtley with 196 kills on the season and a .287 hitting average. Defensively Rice is led by Nia McCardell with 5.31 digs per set along with Kaitlyn Knobbe and Satasha Kostelecky, who are averaging one block per set.
Tulane (4-12, 0-4) is currently harboring a seven-match losing streak, including going winless in AAC play up to this point. The Green Wave areaverging 11.17 kills, 15.84 digs and 2.62 blocks per set. Tulane is led offensively by Avery Burks averaging 3.09 kills per set and Ilayda Demirtas who is averaging 2.29 kills per set. Defensively the Green Wave is led by Lauryn Burrows with 4.72 digs per set and Sabrina Sykers and Orsula Staka at the net with over a block a set.
Memphis dropped its series against Charlotte last weekend, leaving the Tigers at 1-4 in AAC play. The Tigers are averaging 11.8 kills per set and a .173 clip. Two Tigers have tallied 100 or more kills on the season so far, Tabytha Toelke leads the team with 125 followed by Clara Bednarek with 113. Autumn Flynn has recorded clips over .300 in three of her last five matches. Rylee Busse currently leads the Tigers with 23 aces on the season. Abigail Schlueter leads Memphis with 3.56 digs per set with Toelke at 2.65. Bednarek tops the Tigers with 45.0 blocks so far this season with Flynn following behind with 36.0.
The Tigers will also be honoring the donors and partnerships that participated in the Larry O. Finch floor renovations this past summer at Friday night's match against Rice.
