Tigers Wrap Up ITA All-American Championships
Oct 01, 2023 | Women's Tennis
CARY, N.C. – The road came to an end for Memphis women's tennis Sunday afternoon at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina.
The Tigers picked up a pair of wins in the pre-qualifying doubles action. Seniors Monique Woog and Camila Soares defeated Furman 8-6 in round one before falling to Boise State in the round of 16 by a score of 8-7(7-5).
Senior Emily Meyer and freshman Leonie Moeller also won their way into the round of 16 with an 8-5 victory over Rutgers before East Tennessee State defeated the pair 8-7 (7-2).
Junior Alice Amendola dropped her pre-qualifying singles draw 6-1, 6-1 against Oklahoma's Julia Garcia Ruiz. She then fell 6-1, 6-3 to LSU's Florentine Dekkers on Sunday.
"Tough weekend for the Tigers," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We found ourselves with an opportunity to win a couple of our doubles matches and didn't close them out. We need to execute in those situations when they present themselves, but overall we played solid doubles. This was the first time competing this fall for a few girls and we have plenty of time to improve and get better.
"In singles, we have to get off to better starts and understand our court position can affect everything. We have to commit to better decision making and focus on the present moment and point. We can't look backward, but also can't look too far forward."
Up Next
Memphis will be back in action Oct. 16 in Jackson, Tennessee for the Jackson 15K ITF Tournament and Oct. 19 in Knoxville at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
