TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Newly appointed Memphis head softball coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro added another honor to her list as she was one of six people to be inducted into the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame 2022 Class this past weekend.
"I want to thank the committee and the board that nominated me to be in the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame," said VanBrakle Prothro. "I am honored and humbled for my first Hall of Fame induction to be with a class who has had such an enormous impact on the game in West Alabama. I wouldn't be where I am today without my family, husband or the guidance of my colleagues in Tuscaloosa."
VanBrakle Prothro, who came to Memphis from the University of Alabama, spent the better part of 16 years in western Alabama where she was a member of the Crimson Tide from 2003-06 before returning to her alma mater as their pitching coach in 2011. She was a member of a team that won the program's first Southeastern Conference regular season title in 2006 and helped the team claim SEC Tournament championships in 2003 and 2005. She earned SEC Tournament MVP honors in 2005 and was named as the SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2006.
"Stephanie's induction into the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame is a testament to her incredible contributions to the sport of softball," said Executive Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Lauren Ashman. "She is so deserving of this honor and we are so fortunate to have her as the new leader of Memphis Softball. Her collective experiences, leadership and competitive nature will undoubtably transform our program.
While serving as the pitching coach in Tuscaloosa, VanBrakle Prothro coached multiple SEC Pitcher of the Year recipients as well as NFCA Pitchers of the Year, SEC All-Conference members and SEC Freshmen of the Year in Alexis Osorio and Montana Fouts.
Prothro helped the Crimson Tide win the 2012 NCAA Championship, three regular-season SEC titles and two SEC Tournament championships.
