Tigers Hang On for 3-1 Win Over Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – In one of their first true pitcher's duels of the season, the Memphis Tigers (17-16, 3-6) took an early 1-0 lead and held on to squeak by the Central Arkansas Bears (16-19, 10-5) 3-1. The Bears loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth before LHP Dalton Kendrick (SV, 6) caught 3B AJ Mendolia looking at a called third strike that ended the game, as the Bears left the bases loaded in the ninth and 13 runners on base in the game.

How it happened:
- Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out RBI double by RF Blake Daniels
- The Tigers added a run in the third inning, as CF Zach Wilson led off the frame with a single, stole second base, advanced to third base on a groundout, and scored on an RBI groundout by SS Ben Brooks, which put the Tigers in front 2-0
- Central Arkansas answered in the home half of the inning against Wimberley, as three straight Bears connected with two-out singles, with LF Connor Emmet's RBI single cutting the Memphis lead to 2-1
- Wimberley worked scoreless fourth and fifth innings, while LHP Logan Rushing worked around four baserunners in scoreless sixth and seventh frames
- LF Braden Webb led off the seventh with a single for Memphis, advanced to second base on a groundout, stole third base, and scored an insurance run on a sacrifice fly from C Brennan DuBose, which made it 3-1 Memphis
- After Kendrick worked around a HBP in a scoreless eighth inning, the lefty quickly retired the first two Bears in the ninth
- Central Arkansas then loaded the bases with two outs on a HBP, double, and walk, which put the tying runs in scoring position and winning run on base, but Kendrick caught Mendolia looking at a fastball to end the threat and wrap up Memphis' 3-1 win

- With his RBI double in the second inning, Daniels extended his on-base streak to 10 games
- Brooks (0-4) had his seven-game hit streak come to an end, while 3B Logan Kohler (0-4) had his eight-game on-base streak come to an end

- Memphis will remain on the road through the weekend, with an AAC set in Houston against the Cougars Friday-Sunday, with first pitch of the opener set for 6:30 p.m.
