Tigers Drop AAC Opener 16-3 to Tulane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In the first conference matchup of the season, the Memphis Tigers (12-10, 0-1) couldn't slow down the Tulane Green Wave (17-9-1) in a 16-3 loss, as the Green Wave used a five-run frame and two four-run innings to run away with the victory.

How it happened:
- 1B Luis Aviles gave Tulane a 2-0 lead two batters into the game with a two-run home run
- Memphis answered with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from 1B Jacob Compton but left the tying run at third base
- After Kendrick worked a scoreless second inning, he gave up four runs in the third, two on a two-run home run by 2B Chase Engelhard, as Tulane led 6-1 after 2.5 innings
- The Green Wave added a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Aviles and then added five more as they sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth to lead 12-1 at the game's midway point
- Siegel, who had been charged with just two earned runs over his first 34 innings, gave up two runs in the sixth on consecutive RBI singles by Compton and LF Ian Bibiloni, as Memphis cut the deficit to 12-3 after six frames
- Tulane added four insurance runs in the eighth as 10 men came to the plate against RHP Jackson Lyons and RHP Ben Higdon, which made it 16-3, the eventual final

- 1B Chris Swanberg extended his hit streak to seven games with a ninth inning double
- Compton's ninth multi-hit game of the season extended his on-base streak to 16 games
- With three hits, 3B Logan Kohler notched up his team-leading fourth three-hit game of the season
