Early Pirate Runs Stun Memphis in Game Two of Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off their first American Athletic Conference win of the season, the Tigers prepped for game two of the series today. But the ECU offense exploded in the top of the first inning which would lead to Memphis facing he 12-5 loss.
Following today's game, Memphis moves to 13-19 overall.

How it happened:
- East Carolina opened up with a bang in the top of the first inning, scoring 11 of their 12 runs to start the game.
- The Tigers got two runs back in the bottom of the first inning when Gracie Morton and Kendall Lee both hit solo homeruns over the left field fence to cut their deficit to 11-2.
- Dafne Mercado would tack on two more runs for Memphis; first in the bottom of the second when she singled to center field to score Hannah Bassham and again in the bottom of the fourth when she hit a solo-shot over the left-center field fence to make it an 11-4 game.
- Bassham put another run on the board when she drove in Brianna Lucero in the bottom of the fifth to cut even more into the Pirates lead.
- ECU would add one last run in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead out to 12-5. That would hold through the bottom half of the inning.
- Hannah Bassham led the Tigers with three hits today while Dafne Mercado recorded her first collegiate homerun.
- Mikayla Hoschak got the start today while Drue Thomas and Hallie Siems both made appearances.
- Memphis will wrap up their series with East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Coverage of the game can be found on ESPN+ beginning at 12 p.m.
- The Tigers will play in a mid-week game at North Alabama on Wednesday, March 30 before hitting the road for an AAC series at Houston.
