Memphis and Central Arkansas have met seven times since 2010, with the Tigers victorious in four of those matchups. The two teams split a pair of games early in the 2020 season before the remainder of the season was canceled, as the Tigers picked up an 8-5 win at home, while the Bears earned a 5-3 win on their home field. Prior to 2020, the teams hadn't met since 2015.
The Bears won their home opener last weekend, a 7-4 victory over Missouri State, but fell the next two days by a combined score of 30-4. The Central Arkansas pitching staff had an ERA of 11.33 in the series and only two pitchers, both relievers, weren't tagged for at least two runs. The offense hit just .219 as a whole in the series loss, but Noah Argenta (.429), RJ Pearson (.400), and Connor Emmet (.364) each had a productive weekend at the plate. Emmett hit two home runs, while Argenta had a home run and a team-high three RBIs. Gilbertson, who is scheduled to start against the Tigers, picked up the loss on Saturday, as he allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits over just three innings.

A different Bears squad will come to town over the weekend, as Brown is set to play its first official games since March 8, 2020, as the Ivy League didn't play during the 2021 season due to Covid-19. Memphis is 4-2 all-time against Brown but hasn't matched up with the Bears since 1975. Only nine Brown players who appeared in a game in the shortened 2020 season are on the 2022 roster. Those nine players accounted for just 66 at-bats (17%) and 20.0 innings pitched (21%) of the teams' totals from the 12-game 2020 season.
