Memphis Softball falls in series finale against USF in Tampa

TAMPA, FLA. –Memphis softball falls in series finale against USF in Tampa 5-1. The Tigers are now 0-4 in AAC conference play. This is the first time they have started conference play 0-4 since 2014, when they started 0-6.
Hallie Siems started in the circle for the Tigers. Siems went three innings, giving up two runs on two hits. Kailey Hilderbrand came in relief in the fourth innings, going for two thirds of an inning. Mariah Nichols finished out the fourth inning. Nichols went two and a third innings, giving up one run on two hits and had two strikeouts.
Georgina Corrick, the Bulls ace, got the start for USF. Coming into today's game she was 8-3 in the circle with a 1.26 era. Corrick threw a complete game, giving up only one run on four hits. She had seven strikeouts as well.
USF bats stayed hot in the final game of the series. After Alexis Johns hit a triple to lead off the bottom of the first inning, AnaMarie Bruni hit a single to left to get their first run of the game. The Bulls added to their lead in the bottom of third, as Bruni scored on a sac fly to left by Brooke Hartman.
The Bulls extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded Megan Pierro hit a double to left field, scoring Alanah Rivera and Bailee Leistl making it a 4-0 ball game.
Memphis got their first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. After LaNya Bates and Baylee Smith hit a pair singles, Bates scored on a pass ball from third, cutting the lead to 4-1. The Bulls were able to get the run back in the bottom of the inning, as Bruni scored on a wild pitch.
Sara Ann Davidson led the Tigers at the plate with two of the team's four hits.
The Tigers fall to 6-20(0-3) and the Bulls improve to 14-6(3-0). USF has won 11 straight games.

The Tigers will be on the road Tuesday in Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00p.m. The Tigers will be back at the Memphis Softball Complex on Thursday to start a four game series with Wichita State.
