Memphis Softball drops series opener to RV Wichita State

Zoey LeCompte got the start in the circle for the Tigers. This was her third start and seventh appearance for the U of M this season. She went two innings giving up three runs on three hits. Hallie Siems came in relief in the third inning. She went two innings giving up five runs on five hits. Mariah Nichols replaced Siems in the fifth inning. She allowed four runs on three hits.
Redshirt Senior Bailey Lange started the game in the circle for Wichita State. She came into the game with a 10-2 record with a 1.56 era and 65 strikeouts. She threw a complete game for the Shockers, giving up two runs on five hits and also had four strikeouts.
After two quick outs in the top of the first inning, Senior Madison Perrigan hit a line drive home run over the left field fence to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead. Wichita State started off the third inning with back to back solo home runs by Sydney McKinney and Addison Barnard. They added one more run in the inning on a double to left by Ryleigh Buck to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the third inning. After Meagan Chism walked to start the inning, Gracie Morton hit a double to right center to score Chism from first and make it a 4-1 ball game. Alyssa Dean would get another run back for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a solo home run to left to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Shockers would get those two runs back and more in the top of the fifth inning, as Buck hit a 2 run home run to right center. Wichita State would add another six runs in the inning to extend their lead to 12-2.
The Tigers fall to 6-21(0-5) and the Shockers improve to 21-5(4-1).
