Tigers use four home runs in 11-3 rout of Grambling State

For the second consecutive game, Memphis (3-0) scored 11 runs in the win over Grambling State (0-2). Much like Friday night, Memphis trailed early, as the visitors struck in the opening inning. Chris Durham (ND) gave up singles to each of the first two batters of the game, both of whom scored. Durham settled in and allowed just three runs over 4.2 innings.
Memphis rattled Jason Alvarez (L, 0-1), who lasted just two innings. Alvarez gave up three runs on two hits in the first inning, a frame that also included two hit batters and a walk. Taylor Howell and Max Hildreth each picked up an RBI in the inning as Memphis led 3-2 after the first.
The home team extended the lead and made it late very quickly for Grambling State with four runs in the second inning. Jaylen Wilbon tallied Memphis' first home run of the night, a two-run blast off of Alvarez. Memphis added two more in the frame and led 7-2 after two innings.
Memphis wrapped up the game with at least a run in each of the final three innings. Zach Wilson and Hunter Goodman hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the fourth inning for Memphis, while Austin Baskin led off the home half of the fifth inning with a solo home run, Memphis' fourth home run of the afternoon.
Out of the bullpen for Memphis, Carson Stinnett (W, 2-0) allowed just two hits and struck out two over 1.2 innings, while Reed Harding worked a perfect seventh frame that locked down Memphis' 11-3 win.
The teams will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at FedEx Park. Memphis will then hit the road for the next six games with a Tuesday night matchup at Ole Miss, a four-game series at Baylor March 5-7, and a matchup at Vanderbilt next Tuesday night.
