IRVING, Texas – University of Memphis' Levi Clark has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's At-Large Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. The at-large honorees are student-athletes who participate in a varsity sport that is not sponsored by the conference.
Â
Clark wrapped up his four-year collegiate career as a member of the Tigers rifle program (2017-20) in late February at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships, which the UofM hosted. He graduated with a degree in international business in May and is currently in basic training with the U.S. Army.
Â
Clark receives a $2,000 scholarships from the league office that can be applied to graduate or professional studies. In all, 24 American Athletic Conference student-athletes earned scholarships (13 female/11 male). UofM women's soccer's Stasia Mallin received the league accolade for her sport (link to release).
Â
"Levi's efforts and accomplishments continue to impress even after his graduation from this program," said UofM rifle head coach Dan Hermsmeier. "This AAC award for his time here at Memphis is a huge honor for him as he continues his career at the Army Marksmanship Unit."
Â
A Clackamas, Oregon native, Clark posted a 3.38 cumulative grade-point average. He was a three-time Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholastic All-American from 2017-19, a two-time Dean's List student and a six-time Tiger 3.0 Club member.
Â
Clark, a two-time National Rifle Association (NRA) All-American in smallbore, qualified for the NCAA Championships twice (2018, 2019) and placed sixth in the discipline both years. His qualification for both NCAA Championships helped continue a streak of 10 consecutive years of Memphis representation at the national rifle event.
Â
Following his second NCAA Championships appearance, Clark competed in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in China in April 2019 and World University Games in Italy in July 2019. Clark was a four-time All-GARC honoree.
Â
This past season, Clark helped Memphis achieve its highest final ranking – No. 10 in the CRCA poll – since 2015-16 (No. 9). The Tigers climbed as high as No. 5 in the poll and spent nine weeks in the top-10 of the poll.
Â
As a member of the 2018-19 squad, he helped the Tigers set school records for smallbore (2332) and aggregate (4689) at Jacksonville State's Gamecock Invitational in November 2018.
Â
Clark is the UofM's second rifle student-athlete to receive the American Athletic Conference At-Large Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. Eli Rischling was honored in the 2017-18 year.
