No. 10 Memphis Rolls Past No. 13 Akron With Historic Team Performance
Oct 12, 2025 | Rifle
AKRON, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked University of Memphis rifle team turned in a historic performance Sunday, defeating No. 13 Akron, 4732–4686, to set three new program records in aggregate, smallbore and air rifle.
The Tigers' 4732 aggregate score smashed the previous school mark by nine points, while their 2348 in smallbore and 2384 in air rifle each edged the existing program bests by one. Memphis had previously established the smallbore record earlier this season against West Virginia and set the air rifle and aggregate marks last February versus Jacksonville State.
"I'm so proud of the team and how they shot today," head coach Morgan Wilson said. "We've known we've had a big score like this in us and it's great to finally see it come together. It's always nice to break a program record, but to break one by nine points was an incredible feeling.
"We had a lot of stellar performances today and not just from our counting team. This really shows how much depth we have and I'm excited to see what we can do with the rest of our season."
Memphis dominated the leaderboard, sweeping the top five individual spots and placing seven shooters in the top 10 overall.
