Memphis Outduels Kentucky in Top-10 Showdown, Edges Wildcats by 10
Nov 08, 2025 | Rifle
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The sixth-ranked Memphis rifle team turned in a statement performance Saturday, taking down top-ranked Kentucky, 4715 to 4705, inside the Wildcats' own range at Barker Hall.
Memphis won the match with a 2346 in smallbore and 2369 in air rifle for a 4715-team aggregate, edging Kentucky, who posted 2329 in smallbore and 2376 in air rifle for a 4705 total. The Tigers' smallbore dominance proved decisive in the tight matchup.
"It was an exciting day for us and we're happy to be walking away with a win," head coach Morgan Wilson said. "We had a particularly good day in smallbore and were only two points off of our program record. Emmet (Bodrogi) had a standout performance in smallbore and continues to show great consistency week to week. I think we learned a lot in air rifle today and we're looking forward to applying those lessons tomorrow at Morehead State."
Freshman Emmet Bodrogi led the charge with a 591 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle for an 1183 aggregate, finishing second overall and claiming the individual smallbore title. Gabriela Zych (1180) and Kenlee Ewton (1180) tied for third overall, while Katrina Demerle added a 1172 to round out Memphis' top four scorers.
Kentucky's Sam Adkins posted the top overall score with an 1184, but Memphis' depth proved decisive — placing five shooters in the top 10 individually and outscoring the Wildcats by 17 points in smallbore.
The Tigers will return to the line Sunday at 7 a.m. when they face Morehead State to conclude their weekend road swing.
