McMiller receives indoor All-America honor

Junior is first UofM indoor female All-American since 2016, first female throws All-American since 2008.
NEW ORLEANS, La. –University of Memphis track and field's DeeNia McMiller was awarded All-America honors by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced Tuesday. The All-America accolade was the first of McMiller's career.

The junior is one of 13 athletes from the American Athletic Conference to receive All-America accolades and also is one of seven AAC female athletes to be honored.

The USTFCCCA adjusted this year's selection criteria for All-America status to encompass all individual student-athletes and the four student-athletes on relay lineups that were included on the official championships start list.
McMiller earned a spot in the women's weight throw for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, which were slated for the weekend of Mar. 13-14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The championships were cancelled due to the pandemic.

The junior had a tremendous indoor campaign in both throws events, winning silver in the weight throw and shot put at the American Athletic Conference Championships in Birmingham, Alabama in late February. With her second-place finish in the weight throw, the Kansas City, Missouri native set a program record in the event with a mark of 73-11.75 (22.55m).
