Mar 25, 2025 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
IRVING, Texas – Memphis field athletes Jazmyn James and Gabriel Koletsi were named the American Athletic Conference women's and men's field athletes of the week, respectively, on Tuesday afternoon.
James, a junior thrower who transferred from South Florida, won the women's shot put at the Bulldog Alumni Relays on March 22 with a conference-best 15.89-meter launch. The Westmorland, Jamaica, native also placed second in the discus with a 47.14-meter throw, both of which were personal bests.
Koletsi, a native of Heraklion, Greece, also won in Starkville over the weekend behind a career-high 70.74-meter javelin throw. It is the furthest throw by a wide margin in the conference this year, over 12 meters further than the second-highest recorded throw this outdoor season, and the fifth-best in Division I.
It is the first weekly honor of both of their careers, and the first weekly honor a Tiger has received since February 2024. Memphis will be competing again this weekend at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis and the Don McGary Invitational in Kennesaw, Georgia.
