Program is one of eight in Power 6 conferences to have a current streak of 10-plus years.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Make it 10 in a row for the University of Memphis women's golf program!
Â
On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 10th straight year. The NCAA released its list of institutions and athletics teams receiving Public Recognition Awards Tuesday.
Since the NCAA began awarding public recognition in 2004-05, Memphis women's golf has been honored a total of 11 times (2004-05; 2009-10 through 2018-19).
The Academic Progress Rate is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, teams earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top-10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
Â
Memphis has the only American Athletic Conference women's golf program that has earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award 10 years in a row. To take it further, Lady Tigers golf is one of only four athletics programs overall in The American to have received the honor 10 straight years, joining Connecticut's men's golf (15 consecutive years), Connecticut's women's tennis (12) and Tulane's men's tennis (10).
In addition, the Memphis women's golf program's 10-year NCAA Public Recognition Award streak is one of the longest in the sport among the Power 6 conferences. Memphis is one of eight Power 6 women's golf programs with a current streak of 10 or more years of receiving NCAA Public Recognition Awards, joining Florida State (11) and Louisville (10) from the Atlantic Coast Conference; Illinois (15 straight), Northwestern (15) and Wisconsin (10) from the Big Ten; Alabama (10) from the Southeastern Conference; and UCLA (11) from the Pacific-12 Conference in that elite group.
Â
Among NCAA Division I schools in the state of Tennessee, Memphis's current streak of 10 consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Awards leads all public institutions and is second only to Belmont University's 12 straight years in the sport of women's golf. The next current longest streaks among Tennessee NCAA Division I schools in the sport of women's golf are held by Austin Peay (8) and Middle Tennessee (7).
Â
The UofM women's golf's NCAA Public Recognition Award comes on the heels of last fall's Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report that had the program with a perfect 100 percent GSR. The announcement of the NCAA Public Recognition Award Tuesday puts the cap on a decade of academic excellence (2009-10 to 2018-19) for the Tigers women's golf program, and the following detail a few of those accomplishments:
Â
In addition, the Lady Tigers golf program has sustained excellence on the course. Over the 10-year period from 2009-10 to 2018-19, Memphis had six top-four finishes at the conference championships (Conference USA, American Athletic). The Tigers also had nine all-conference honorees in that same span of time.
Â
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 19.
