Tigers set to compete in UofM Softball Tournament this weekend

Memphis begins play at 11:30 a.m. Friday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team remains home this weekend as the Tigers host the UofM Softball Tournament Friday through Sunday at the Tigers Softball Complex. Memphis has four games on tap, starting with Western Carolina at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Belmont, Butler, Indiana State, Western Carolina and Youngstown State will be participating in this weekend's tournament. Memphis will play every team except Youngstown State this weekend, but will face off against the Penguins in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Memphis is riding a four-game winning streak into the weekend after taking all four games at the Blues City Classic. Sophomore outfielder Gracie Morton had a stellar weekend at the plate, earning herself a place on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after hitting .583 with three extra base hits. Morton is currently hitting a team-high .413 this year.
Morton is one of two players to average over .400 through 19 games as sophomore shortstop Sam Ibison comes in with a .406 batting average. Ibison has recorded a team-leading 28 hits and is second on the team with two triples.
With 10 swipes this season, junior Delaney Smith has moved up to third on the Memphis all-time stolen base list. Former Tiger Kyler Trosclair Klatt holds the Memphis record with 78 stolen bases in four years.
Collectively, Memphis averages .309 with 163 hits and 115 runs scored. The Tigers own a .389 on-base percentage and have drawn 65 walks and 11 hit by pitches.
In the circle, the Tigers are led by junior Mariah Nichols. Nichols has pitched a team-leading 48.1 innings this season and has a team-low 2.75 ERA. Freshman Chyanne Ellett has also had a strong start to her rookie campaign, posting a 6-2 overall record with a team-leading 54 strikeouts including seven in Memphis' comeback win in their last outing.
The UofM Softball Tournament begins Friday at 9 a.m. The Tigers will play games two and three on Friday and the final game of the day on Saturday and Sunday.
