Baseball welcomes Western Illinois to FedExPark for weekend series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Wrapping up a seven-game home stand, Memphis baseball plays host to the Western Illinois Leathernecks this weekend at FedExPark. First pitch of the series is set for Friday at 4 p.m.

In their last outing, the Tigers vindicated its last setback with an 8-5 win against Central Arkansas on Tuesday night. The victory extended the Tigers' win streak to four games after sweeping Dayton last weekend.
Ben Brooks turned in a career night on Tuesday against the Bears, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. Freshman Jaylen Wilbon enjoyed a 2-for-4 evening with two runs scored and added his first career RBI.
On the mound, Memphis pitching has posted a 2.48 ERA through the first two weeks of the young season along with 87 strikeouts. The projected weekend rotation of senior Danny Denz, junior Carson Stinnett and freshman Blake Wimberley have combined for a 3.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts, while the bullpen has posted a 1.62 ERA with 50 strikeouts and two saves.
The Leathernecks visit Memphis looking for their first win of the season after dropping their first two series of the season at Tennessee and Butler. Memphis leads the all-time series by a 12-4 margin, including six straight victories in the series since 1988.
