Softball travels to South Alabama for the Mardi Gras Classic

The Tigers will play five games, starting Friday afternoon.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team hits the road once again this weekend for the Mardi Gras Classic hosted by South Alabama. The Tigers will compete in five games, starting Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT against Stephen F. Austin. Memphis enters the weekend with a 5-5 overall record.

The Tigers will play one game against SFA, two games against Jacksonville and two games against host South Alabama.

Through 10 games this season, Memphis is led offensively by sophomore shortstop Sam Ibison, who has posted a .389 batting average with a team-leading 14 hits for the Tigers. Freshman catcher Brady Rowland continues to make her mark in her young career, hitting .367 for Memphis with an on-base percentage of .487 through two weekends of play.

Juniors Baylee Smith and Delaney Smith have been a terror on the base paths, each recording six successful stolen bases to-date. Delaney Smith has 55 stolen bases during her career, a total that is fifth all-time at Memphis. Kyler Trosclair Klatt is the career record holder with 78 swipes from 2015-18.

Sophomore Gracie Morton and senior Sara Ann Davidson have shown improvement at the plate, hitting .353 and .346, respectively. Both players lead Memphis with three doubles and a home run. Davidson's on-base percentage of .452 is second on the team.

At the plate, Memphis has accumulated more walks and hit by pitches (43) than strikeouts (37) this season. The Tigers are also 21-for-24 in stolen bases with eight players recording a stolen base.

Collectively, Memphis owns a 3.06 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched. Senior Karli Perque leads the way with a 2.44 ERA while freshman Chyanne Ellett has 21 strikeouts and a 4-1 overall record.
