McMiller Named AAC Female Field Athlete Of The Week

Senior wins her second honor of the season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis' DeeNia McMiller has been named the American Athletic Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
McMiller's honor was the second of her career and also her second of the season. She received the accolade Dec. 10, 2019, for her performance at the Dec. 6 Birmingham-Southern Indoor Icebreaker.
McMiller, a senior, was a double-winner at Sunday's KMS Invitational, taking the top spot on the podium in both the women's weight throw (71-8; 21.84m) and shot put (47-4.25; 14.43m). It was the fourth time in her career that McMiller was a double-winner at an indoor meet.
With her two titles Sunday, McMiller now has three in two meets so far in the 2019-20 indoor season. She won the weight throw in the Dec. 6 season opener with a school-record effort of 72-10 (22.20m), breaking her previous program mark (67-9.75; 20.67m) by more than five feet.
McMiller's 72-10 (22.20m) throw is third nationally and leads American Athletic Conference.
Last season, the Kansas City, Mo., native won silver at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in the weight throw with her previous school record of 67-9.75 (20.67m).
The Tigers return back to Birmingham, Ala., for a third-consecutive indoor meet, this time the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational Sunday, Feb. 2. The meet is set to take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
