Memphis to face Arkansas on Saturday, Ole Miss and UT Martin on Monday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The spring season has finally arrived for the UofM's women's tennis team. After a couple of months away from competition, the Tigers get set to play a trio of matches this weekend, starting at Arkansas on Saturday before competing against Ole Miss and UT Martin in Oxford, Miss. on Monday.
The weekend action will start at 11 a.m. in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, followed by a 10 a.m. match against Ole Miss and a 3 p.m. first serve against UT Martin to close the weekend.
Memphis kicks off the season playing two of their four SEC opponents, setting up what head coach Hayden Perez anticipates to be a challenging spring schedule.
After losing no student-athletes to graduation, the Tigers bring back a wealth of experience, including all-conference player Laura Bente, who enters the season after going 13-2 at the two-spot last year.
Arkansas enters the season returning a pair of student-athletes that finished last season with top-100 rankings in Martina Zerulo (87) and Tatum Rice (89). Zerulo landed at 121 in the final rankings of the fall season. Lauren Alter and Rice enter the spring ranked 34th in doubles play.
The Rebels open the spring on a high note after a top-10 win to close the fall. Sabina Macholova, ranked 48th entering the spring, upended 10th-ranked Kenya Jones of Georgia Tech in UNLV's Rebel Invitational.
All-together, Ole Miss will face 12 teams this season that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
UT Martin will travel for its first 10 matches of the spring, a travel-heavy start for head coach Caitlyn William's first season at the helm. Amelia Campbell led the Skyhawks roster with eight wins in the fall, including six doubles wins. True freshman Aziza Aubin added seven wins, six of which came in singles play.
