Tigers provide solid singles play to close Samford Hidden Duals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Behind a strong start to the Samford Hidden Duals, the Memphis women's tennis team capped the three-day invitational with 24 singles victories and seven doubles wins.

"It was a great weekend for the Tigers. We competed really well," head coach Hayden Perez said. "In some cases, we had players competing for the first time this year, and for others it was their third of fourth match of the young season, and I loved watching them play."

On day two of the tournament, the Tigers turned in a much-improved effort in doubles, taking three of its four matches of the day.

The Tigers used the momentum to post eight singles victories on Saturday, including straight-set decisions from Josephine Cao, Kayla Klazmer, Laura Bente, Alisha Reayer, Aran Teixido Garcia, Monique Woog and Claire Sullivan.

After three additional victories in doubles play on Sunday, Memphis turned in nine more wins in singles action against host Samford to close the weekend.

In their final contests of the round robin weekend, Cao, Reayer and Teixido Garcia each secured a 3-0 mark in singles play with straight-set wins on Sunday.

"One of the areas we focused on this weekend was composure in keeping our emotions in check while competing," Perez added. "I thought everyone as a whole did a good job of that. This will help us as we move forward this year."

The Tigers shift their focus to the ITA All-American Championships, which begin Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
