PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis junior Hannah Flowers has been named to the American Athletic Conference Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It is the third time this season a Tiger has earned the accolade, as Meredith Wallace did so Sept. 3 and Flowers also Sept. 9.
It is the fourth conference weekly honor roll recognition of Flowers' career and her second of the season. She earned the distinction twice in 2018. Flowers was a 2018 All-American Athletic Conference second team pick and a 2019 preseason all-league selection.
Last weekend, Flowers helped Memphis to a runner-up finish in the Beale Street Challenge. The Tigers went 2-1 with wins over North Alabama (3-0) and Toledo (3-1) and a setback to Southeast Missouri (3-1).
The Tigers have an 11-1 record entering American Athletic Conference play this week. Memphis began 2019 with an 11-0 start, the best in program history. Prior to the Saturday's setback, the Tigers were one of five unbeaten programs in NCAA Division I volleyball.
In last weekend's three matches, Flowers posted 42 kills, seven aces, 8 digs and six total blocks. In the win over Toledo that set the program-record 11-0 mark, the Wildwood, Mo., native had 18 kills, four aces and four total blocks.
Flowers leads the American Athletic Conference in aces (30) and is ranked among the league leaders in hitting percentage and kills.
Memphis opens league play on the road this weekend. The Tigers travel to Tulane for a Sept. 27 match at 7 p.m. (CT) and then face the Cougars in Houston, Texas, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. (CT).
