LEAWOOD, Kansas – Incoming University of Memphis women's golfer Victoria England (Memphis, Tenn.) qualified for the 119th U.S. Women's Amateur by carding a 72 (+1) on Monday at the Country Club of Leawood in Leawood, Kansas.
A Memphis native who signed with the Lady Tigers in March, England finished her prep golf career as a home school student. Before that, she captured a pair of Division II-A titles as a member of the team at St. George's. She earned her first state crown as an eighth grader in 2014 and captured her second as a junior in 2017, claiming medalist honors by 11 strokes.
One of 40 competitors in the sectional, England finished tied for third to earn one of the four qualifying spots. Emma Whitaker, a rising junior at Oklahoma State, carded a 68 (-3) to lead the field. Trinity King and University of Arkansas' Brooke Matthews were the other two qualifiers out of the Leawood Regional.
The Leawood event is one of 24 sectionals for entry into the 119th U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be hosted at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, August 5-11.
England is one of three incoming signees for head coach Beth Harrelson in August. She will be joined in this freshman class by Haley Barclay (London, Ontario) and Brooke Veres (Goodyear, Arizona).
