Chevalier wins in France; Jackson narrowly misses title in Atlanta
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Isaiah Jackson shot 20-under 268 – including a final-round 9-under 63 – to finish second, by a single stroke, in the Dogwood Invitational Friday in Atlanta.
Â
Auburn's Brandon Manchero captured the title with a birdie on the final hole to complete a 7-under 65 for a 72-hole total of 21-under 267. Manchero had 15 birdies and only one bogey on his final 36 holes.
Â
Jackson, who will be a senior this fall, was one of the most consistent golfers for the University of Memphis program last season. His 72.6-stroke average tied for second on the team behind Bradley Bawden.
Â
At the Dogwood Invitational, Jackson put together rounds of 68-69-68-63 to challenge Manchero in a field that included a record-setting performance from Davidson's Alex Ross. Ross shot a 15-under 57 in the third round, but finished outside the Top 10. He had no other sub-70 round.
Â
Jackson's final round – a total that eclipsed his best round (66) last season – included eight birdies, an eagle and a bogey. He was 10-under with three holes to play, before finishing par-bogey-par for his 63. He bogeyed No. 17.
Â
Jackson's performance was the second standout postseason result for a member of the Memphis golf team. Frenchman Guillaume Chevalier, who will be a junior in the fall, won the recent Coupe Yves Caillol in Marseille by shooting 4-under 212 and winning the tournament in a playoff with Nicolas Porteboeuf.
