Memphis enters the tournament after dropping its final series against UCF. The Tigers head to Houston with a 22-32 record after the weekend setback.
Baylee Smith led Memphis offensively, topping the team in batting average (.344), hits (56) and home runs (7). Smith also ranked in the top three on the squad in doubles (11), triples (4) and stolen bases (12).
Ashley Threatt, one of the seniors that were honored on Senior Day on Sunday, closed her regular season with a 2-for-2 effort in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. The Big Rock, Tennessee native hit .310 on the season with seven home runs. She was perfect on defense during the regular season, cleanly fielding each of her 282 chances.
Karli Perque tossed a complete game two on Sunday, striking out a conference-schedule high eight batters. She ended her season with a team-best 3.61 ERA while recording 87 strikeouts. Mariah Nichols, in a pinch-hit situation, recorded her first collegiate hit by way of a solo home run to left center on Sunday. She led the pitching corps with 95 strikeouts this season.
Memphis is 2-5 all-time at the AAC Championship. Last season, Memphis took a first-round victory over UCF with a 3-0 shutout in the quarterfinals before falling to USF in the semifinals. The Tigers enter the 2019 Championship with quarterfinal wins in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018.
A Look At The Competition
USF enters as the No. 1 seed after losing two-of-three against Wichita State. After dropping games one and two, the Bulls salvaged the series with a 1-0 win on Sunday. A first inning home run from Lindsey Devitt was all that was needed in the win.
AnaMarie Bruni led the team during the regular season with a .379 batting average. The junior collected 66 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples and two home runs in addition to stealing 30 bases during the season.
The Bulls also boast one of the better pitchers in the conference in Georgina Corrick. The Sanford, Florida native holds a 0.93 ERA with 232 strikeouts and a 23-4 record. As a staff, USF's pitchers carry a 2.01 ERA. Corrick is a finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year award.
Including the three games from this season, the Tigers and Bulls have faced off 22 times, with USF holding an 18-4 series advantage.
