Baseball closes regular season at ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – In the final weekend of the regular season, Memphis baseball travels to No. 6 ECU for a three-game set beginning Thursday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Matchup: Memphis (26-24, 9-11 The American) at ECU (40-12, 18-3 The American)
Dates: Thursday, May 16 – 5:30 p.m. // Friday, May 17 – 5:30 p.m. // Saturday, May 18 – 12 p.m.

The road finale marks the first time Memphis will finish the regular season away from home since 2013.
The Tigers return to the diamond after capping its home series slate against Cincinnati at FedExPark last weekend. Despite dropping two of three contests, Memphis secured a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championships later this month in Clearwater, Fla.
Payton Marshall paced the Memphis offense last week, hitting .400 through five games. The senior also added a double and three RBI. Classmate Cale Hennemann also enjoyed a strong week at the dish, leading the team with six runs driven in and posted a pair of multi-hit games.
On the mound, Memphis increased its season strikeout total to 476 in the Cincinnati series, which sits just eight strikeouts away from matching the school-record mark of 484 set last season. Four of the Top 5 season strikeout records in program history have come since 2013.
The Pirates most recently reached the 40-win plateau after a walk-off win against Campbell in midweek action. ECU claimed The American's regular-season title last weekend against Wichita State.
The ECU lineup features five hitters batting over a .300 mark. Utility player Alec Burleson leads the way with a .369 average and has a team-best 45 RBI.
The Pirates boast the league's best earned run average with a 3.33 staff ERA. ECU also leads the conference in strikeouts with 491.
ECU leads the all-time series by a 33-17 mark. Memphis is in search of its first series win since 2015.
