Softball Visits Starkville for Midweek Against Mississippi State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Staying on the road, the Memphis softball team visits SEC foe Mississippi State on Wednesday. First pitch in Starkville is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SECN+.

The Tigers look to bounce back after dropping two of three at UConn this past weekend. Memphis adapted over the course of the weekend, rebounding to take a win in game three. Home runs from Ashley Threatt and Sara Ann Davidson propelled the team to the Sunday win. Threatt was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season after her last week of play, which saw her record 10 RBI in five games.

Memphis comes into the week having eclipsed last season's home run total, sitting now at 27. Eight Tigers have sent a ball over the fence, led by Threatt and Regan Hadley, who have six homers each.

Baylee Smith leads the team with a .381 batting average. The sophomore has 43 hits, spraying the ball all over the field. Smith has nine doubles, three triples and four home runs. She has also successfully stolen 12 bases over the course of the season.

In the circle, Kailey Hilderbrand picked up her first win of the season on Sunday. Hilderbrand pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and keeping UConn without a walk.

On the season, the Tigers carry a 3.42 ERA, with a collective 190 strikeouts. Mariah Nichols leads the team with 80 strikeouts. Karli Perque, with 69 strikeouts, allows opposing batters to hit just .271 at the plate. Bayleigh Wisher has thrown 62.2 innings for Memphis and has a 6-2 record.

A Look At The Competition
The Bulldogs host the Tigers after falling in their conference series against LSU. Mississippi State shut out LSU in game one before falling in games two and three. Emily Williams tossed her third complete game shutout of the season. Fa Leilua belted a pair of home runs to help the Bulldogs put up runs on the Tigers.

Mia Davidson leads the Bulldogs with a batting average of .454. She has 49 hits and is tied with Leilua with 18 home runs, which leads the team. As a team, the Bulldogs hit .297 and have launched 50 home runs.

The Bulldog pitching staff enters the week with a 2.92 ERA, striking out 222 batters. Williams currently has a 7-4 record and leads the strikeout list with 94 Ks.

The Bulldogs and the Tigers have faced off nine times, with Mississippi State claiming victory in all of them. Earlier this year, the teams battled in a back-and-forth matchup that saw the Bulldogs pull away in the seventh inning.
