Home runs by Ashley Threatt and Sara Ann Davidson launch Tigers to victory
STORRS, Conn. – The Tigers softball team rebounded to take game three against UConn, using home runs from Ashley Threatt and Sara Ann Davidson to propel Memphis to the 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 21-19 on the season, with a 3-6 conference record.
Once again, Memphis tallied the first runs of the game. Baylee Smith battled to a full count before reaching base on a fielding error. Threatt stepped up to the plate and launched the first pitch she saw over the fence, tying the team lead with six home runs on the year.
The defenses of both teams held fast for the next several innings, with neither team able to generate any offense. Memphis retired the first 11 batters in order until giving up a single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Leading off in the top of the fifth inning, Davidson took the approach Threatt did. Liking the first pitch she saw, Davidson sailed this one over the fence in left field, scoring the solo home run. It marked the second of the season for Davidson, who has now homered in two conference series.
Kailey Hilderbrand and the defense kept UConn guessing all day, giving up just one run on five hits. Hilderbrand picked up her first collegiate win against the Huskies.
