Softball Finishes Road Schedule Against USF

First pitch on Friday slated for 3:30 p.m.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With just one road series remaining on the schedule, the Memphis softball team heads to Tampa, Florida for its final road trip of the regular season. First pitch of Friday's game is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.

The Tigers return to the field after splitting a nonconference doubleheader with UT Martin on Tuesday. Memphis won game one behind a five-run second inning before falling in game two. After Delaney Smith plated the first run for the Tigers with an RBI single, Gracie Morton brought everyone home with the third Memphis grand slam of the season. The homer marked Morton's third long shot of the season.
As the Tigers wind down the road portion of the schedule, they are led at the plate by Baylee Smith. In 137 at bats, Smith holds a .358 batting average, recording 49 hits, 10 doubles and seven home runs. Smith has also stolen 12 bases on the year, which is tied for the third-most in the American. Ashley Threatt, who has the second-highest average on the team, hits .312 with seven doubles and seven home runs. Smith and Threatt are tied for team-lead in home runs.
As a team, Memphis has reached numerous milestones on the season. The Tigers' 33 home runs are tied for the fourth-most in school history. Memphis' 57 doubles are the fifth-most in program history, while the team has hit double-digit triples in a season for the seventh time. Three grand slams also mark a program record.
In the circle, Karli Perque picked up her seventh win of the season against the Skyhawks. On the year, she has recorded 71 strikeouts and holds opposing hitters to a .241 average. The Tigers pitching staff has combined for 209 strikeouts. Mariah Nichols leads the Tigers with 92 strikeouts and a team-low opposing batting average of .240.
A Look At The Competition
USF's last action on the field was a three-game sweep of the UConn Huskies. The Bulls came away from the weekend with a pair of shutout victories, blanking the Huskies in games one and three.
The most dangerous hitter on the Bulls' roster is AnaMarie Bruni. Bruni holds a .381 batting average on the season, collecting 61 hits with nine doubles, three triples and two home runs. Quick on the basepaths, Bruni has swiped a conference-leading 26 bases in 31 attempts.
USF's pitching corps is led by Georgina Corrick, who maintains a 0.87 ERA in 160.2 innings of work. The sophomore has 209 strikeouts to her name, compared to only 36 walks. Corrick has been named a USA Softball Player of the Year Finalist.
