Chase Harris and Bradley Bawden pace Memphis through 36 holes
WEST POINT, Miss. – The University of Memphis men's golf team shot 2-over 578 on the opening day of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. The Tigers' 36-hole score places them in ninth among the 15 teams participating in the event, which is being played at Old Waverly Golf Club.
ULM is first after a 22-under 554 Monday. Tuesday's final round will find fourth-ranked Vanderbilt (561), Ole Miss (562) and Little Rock (563) among the closest challengers.
The Tigers, participating in their final event before the American Athletic Conference Championships next week, were led by Chase Harris and Bradley Bawden. Harris shot 72-69 for 3-under 141, while Bawden was two strokes back after rounds of 72 and 71.
Tied at 57th individually was the Memphis duo of Nick Giles (72-77) and Isaiah Jackson (76-73). Guillaume Chevalier opened with an even-par 72 and followed with a 78 for 150.
Middle Tennessee's Marcus Byrd has the individual lead after 36 holes after shooting 70-66 for 8-under 136.
